3 Megapixel IP security camera SNB-7004P Samsung review

After the development of IP digital technology, the Smart function becomes new trend, such as video analysis in intelligent traffic, smart building...etc video surveillance application. The smart IPC gradually dominate the new trend of security camera. Today, we are going to introduce the Samsung SNB-7004P 1/2.8" 3 megapixel WDR IP camera, which adopts Samsung high performance WN3 network chip-set. Smart IPC is an video surveillance camera integrates many smart features, which enable camera adjust its image processing on the basis of surveillance scene, also through network adaption to achieve best monitoring results; furthermore, there are a variety of built-in video analysis to achieve functions such as perimeter detection, objects missing, facial recognition or cross zone detection. Compact structure, user-friendly design

SNB-7004P 3.0 megapixel IP camera adopts simple compact design, the front part utilizes aluminum metal housing, the latter part is using white ABS plastic. Meanwhile, there is one mounting hole on each sides of IP camera to facilitate the installation of the camera in surveillance projects.

Let's take a loot at its rear panel, this camera has rich interference, supports local video storage with Micro-SD slot, and Audio I/O for two way audio intercom, and BNC connector for analog video signal output, alarm I/O for integration solution, RS485 interface, and support PoE, RJ-45 Ethernet interface, power input connector to work with DC12V/AC24V power supply. Besides, it has SD card status LED indicator and Power LED indicator, Auto focus button, reset button.

3.0 megapixel resolution, HD surveillance

Samsung SNB-7004P adopts 1/2.8" PS Exmor 3.20M CMOS image sensor, maximum resolution reaches up to 2065x1565, supporting 3.0MP@30fps, 1080P@60fps HD resolution formats. During this test, we set the camera's video parameters to 1080P@30fps, then decrease the optical zoom to minimum, and push the Auto-focus to test its resolution. Through testing, under 1080P resolution setting, the camera's horizontal resolution is close to 1000TVL, vertical resolution is approximate 950TVL, overall performance is normal. Then we set its video parameters to 3.0MP@30fps for testing its performance, its horizontal resolution is 1300TVL, and vertical resolution is 1200TVL, edge resolution reaches 1000TVL.

We tested its color reproduction performance through using 24 color reproduction testing card. After doing the comparison, in addition to slightly bluish of grey color, the rest colors have correct reproduction. Through using 20 level grey scale test card, the recognizable grey-scale level can reach up to 18.

Smooth video streaming with stable bit-rate

In above picture quality test, we know this camera can provide good HD resolution image under 3.0MP resolution format setting, then we move the camera to monitor outdoor scene - road traffic. Under the default 3.0MP@30fps and 3Mbps network bandwidth setting, the captured outdoor images are clear and natural colors, with high contrast, facing the high-speed movement of the vehicle, the video without frame losing, overall performance is excellent.

Kept 3MP@30fps and 3Mbps parameters, running the bit-rate software, we could know its bit-rate can be stabilized in 3.4Mbps; under 1080P@30fps 2.5Mbps, its bit-rate stabilized at 2.8Mbps. Meanwhile, under different resolution formats, different frame rate, its bit-rate kept stable. Herein, I must mention that this camera can provide 3 megapixel video streaming only need 3Mbps low network bandwidth, 1080P only requires 2.5Mpbs, so low bit-rate, the camera can deliver high resolution, while reducing bandwidth usage, significantly saving storage space.

What's its video streaming speed? During this test, we access the IP camera through PC browser, the computer connects to LAN network to obtain video streaming, under 3.0MP@30fps and 3Mbps network bandwidth, we measured its video latency is approximate 290 - 350ms; under other video parameters, its videl latency can be much better which is around 250 - 300ms.

SNB-7004P IP camera can not only provide high definition images, but also has low light adaption capability, supports 3D noise reduction, automatic gain control, automatic white balance...etc functions. During this test, we mounted a HD Tamron lens (Auto iris, F=1.4-Close) to this box camera. We put the camera into dark box to simulate the low light environment, gradually reduce the illumination then check the images. When continually decrease the illumination, the AGC increase to maintain its brightness, during the decrease of illumination, the images kept high quality. When illumination is 5.8Lux, there is slight image noise, then we turned on 3D noise reduction (SSNR), camera kept good quality color images before switches to B/W mode. When illumination is 1.74Lux, camera automatically switches to B/W mode, and images without noise. When Lux meter display "0.00Lux (0.001-0.009), the objects in images are still visible. In color mode, the minimum illumination is 0.07 - 0.1Lux

Smart IPC for different applications

This smart IPC supports a variety of intelligent image processing functions, including wide dynamic range (WDR), high light compensation (BLC), XDR, defog. Let's test some of these functions.

This camera's wide dynamic range is 120dB, during WDR testing, we make the camera target to strong light, we could see the background scene is still clear, but the strong light totally becomes white, doll is invisible; while we enable the WDR, the brightness of background scene slightly becomes dark, but doll becomes visible. Under the same scene, enable the BLC function, the background scene becomes more brighter.

In addition, it has built-in a variety of smart video analysis functions such as smart motion detection, facial detection, audio detection, tamper detection, network disruption detection, scene changing, cross zone detection, defense area detection, object missing detection; on the other hand of secondary functions, it supports image mirror, image flip, privacy zones, digital image stabilizer...etc. In a nutshell, this is rich functions 3 megapixel network camera.
