Hardened switches designed specifically for industrial networks

KBC’s New Line of Hardened Switches Designed Specifically for Industrial Networks

KBC Networks, provider of high-performance fibre optic, and network transmission products, has launched a series of environmentally hardened, Ethernet edge switches. The KBC ES range features both managed and unmanaged switches designed specifically to meet the rigors of industrial networks.

The KBC switch range includes an unmanaged entry-level series, suitable for straightforward IP camera networks, as well as switches that offer fibre interfaces, embedded serial server data ports and SFP ports (Small Form Pluggable – a flexible port which allows the user to select either a fibre SC or RJ45 interface).

Unlike many of their networking counterparts, where systems can often afford slower recovery times, security networks and safety critical systems rely on high-speed recovery. To meet this demand, the KBC switches offer redundancy through DT-Ring or DT-Ring+ technology to ensure recovery times of less than 100msec.

“Introducing the Ethernet switch range is just the next step in providing our customers with the widest possible choice of transmission products designed specifically for demanding environments,” said Iain Deuchars, MD KBC Networks EMEA. “Although we already offer an extensive transmission range, our goal is to provide the right product for each customer’s unique requirements and that’s precisely what our new switch line enables us to do.”

With an operating temperature range of between -40oC and +85oC and a protection class rating of IP40, the KBC switches feature plug-and-play design and automatic configuration of all ports. The switches are available in DIN rail or wall-mount configurations and include redundant power supplies and alarm outputs.
