SmartSens iLLUMi Starlight CMOS Sensor SC5300 SC2300 SC1200

Chinese domestic CMOS image sensor manufacturer – SmartSens recently released iLLUMi series CMOS image sensors featuring starlight sensitivity, the new family including SC5300, SC2300 and SC1200 which can be able to shoot color image under extreme low light conditions.

As the emerging CMOS sensor producer, SmartSens CMOS image sensors are widely used in security cameras, iLLUMi is a kind of innovative pixel technology, it has higher sensitivity to the light spectrum between visible and near infrared regions, this pixel technology enables the image sensor to capture high clarity color image under star lighting conditions. 

According to the SmartSens Technology, this new series CMOS image sensor can achieve B/W video shooting under nearly 0Lux condition, which means the iLLUMi powered cameras can see what human eye can not see.

Among them, SC5300 is a 1/2.5” progressive scan CMOS image sensor owns 5-megapixel (2592x1944) effective pixels. SC2300 is a 2MP CMOS image sensor adopts 1/2.8” optical design, both SC5300 and SC2300 employ SmartClarity technology to achieve the star light low illumination performance. SC1200 is a 1MP CMOS image sensor offers 1280x720p HD resolution, this image sensor starts mass production on this month, and the mass production of SC2300 is scheduled on June 2017, SC5300 is scheduled on August 2017.

iLLUMi technology offers many advantages can enable your camera to shoot color video under low illumination conditions, this eliminates the usage of Infrared light or white light etc artificial lighting sources. By eliminating the artificial lighting components, your camera can be much more compact and also the power consumption will drop significantly. The introduction of iLLUMi technology allows SmartSens to better compete with similar technologies e.g. Sony Starvis. As there is no technical comparison between the iLLUMi and Starvis,, it's unknown which is better between them.
