960H vs 720P vs 1080P resolution

Analog camera and digital cameras both co-exist in current market. With rapid development of new technologies, both cameras become affordable. 960H, 720P and 1080P are different resolutions for security cameras. Today, we are going to provide some simple information about these different resolutions.

960H Resolution

960H firstly was introduced by Sony Corporation, which has been dominated in analog video surveillance field for decades. Sony specializing in designing and manufacturing the CCD image sensor and image signal processor (ISP). Dated back to 2009, the company introduced its "Effio" series ISP and 960H CCD image sensor. Based on "Effio" ISP and 960H CCD, the analog cameras can deliver over 650TVL resolutions. Last year, the company released Effio-V and Effio-A new image signal processor which enable camera to deliver over 700TVL horizontal resolution.

Horizontal resolution represents the level of detail in the horizontal direction of the video. A larger number indicates higher definition video.

As you know, video recording requires front capture device - security cameras, and the  recording devices. To setup a 960H video surveillance system, you need to use  700TVL analog cameras and 960H DVRs. 960H DVRs can enable users to record the video with resolution of 960x480 (NSTC)/960x582 (PAL).

720P Resolution

720P is also called half HD. It's one of HDTV broadcasting standards, and 720P resolution has a 1280x720 resolution. Compared with 960H resolution, 720P resolution is an increase in the number of pixels of nearly 50% which resulting in significantly enhanced picture quality.  In today's analog HD  technologies such as HD-CVI, HD-TVI, they adopt progressive scan CMOS image sensor to deliver 720P resolution. 720P resolution can display in 16:9 wide screen HDTV equipment.

1080P Resolution

1080P is another HDTV broadcasting standard which also called full high-definition (HD). 1080P has a resolution of 1920x1080 (2.1MP) with aspect ratio of 16:9.  1080P image resolution is two times larger than 960H, and one time larger than 720P resolution.

In a nutshell, among these different standards, 1080P is the highest resolution. We recommend user to buy the 1080P resolution analog/IP cameras, which can allow you to capture high clarity images and fit your HDTV equipment.
