What's laser infrared security camera?

With the rapid development of LED technology, three different night vision technologies appear into security industry;Infrared LED, White-light, Laser Infrared Light. Recently some manufacturers introduce security cameras with laser infrared light. Herein we provide more information about this technology.

Introduction to laser

Laser means light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Directionality is the advantages for laser light, Laser emits light in one direction, the beam divergence angle is small, close to the ideal parallel light, and monochromatic: laser spectral width is very small, a few nano-meters. Therefore it has good monochromatic light.

What's laser infrared light?

Laser infrared light adopts semiconductor laser as light emitting device. The output is light, thus can be used as light source. With reason of directionality features and narrow width of beam, the laser infrared can emit in long distance with intensity light, therefore it's suitable for long range distance illumination. Long range distance illumination is the most important features for laser infrared light.

Adding laser infrared light to CCD camera composed of night vision security camera; the laser infared light emitting the 810nm wavelength infrared as light source.  Infrared laser light typically choose the 810nm semiconductor laser. 810nm is a wavelength near infrared and visible light, CCD image sensor with good sensitivity on 810 wavelength light. 

Difference between laser infrared light and traditional infrared LED

Distance: A single LED's output power is 5-15mW, even market has 40-50mW LED, it is still can not compete with laser infrared light, now single laser infrared light's output power can reach 10W, its brightness is equal to brightness of hundreds of LEDs. Therefore compact size laser infrared light can reach up to hundreds distance, significantly improved the illumination and brightness performance.

Size: Laser infrared light adopting single semiconductor laser infrared device as light source, it's can meet the long distance illumination requirement with compact size.

Life-span: Laser infrared and traditional infrared LED are both belong to semiconductor light products, the lifespan is determined by the heat ventilation design. The laser infrared light's electro-optical conversion efficiency is 60%, the life-span supports 8000 hours.
