Alarm systems work with 3G SIM card

Introduction to cellular communication

Since the mature of wireless technology, Cellular communication plays the vital role in alarm connection. Currently, the GSM cellular communicator becomes the primary or backup communicator for alarm communication. The wireless connection brings the flexibility to the system's installation, and one of securest alarm signal transmission method.

Typically, the cellular communicator is using the GSM/GPRS module as the core component for the communication. This enables alarm system can transmit the alarm signal through GSM network (850/900/1800/1900MHz).

3G cellular network in world countries

As we know, since the first pre-commercial 3G network was launched by NTT DoCoMo in Japan in 1998, now the 3G network is replacing the traditional GSM network as the primary cellular communication network. It seems all major cellular mobile service provider are providing the 3G SIM card, which back-compliant with GSM.

Different from GSM standard, the 3G standard contains WCDMA (Asia, Europe),CDMA2000 (USA),TD-SCDMA (China Mobile). Among them, WCDMA standard being deployed and retained globally. This standard dominated the commercial cellular networks, and has become the dominant technology with 457 network operators, and network deployed in 178 countries as of April 2012. Several CDMA2000 operators have even converted their networks to WCDMA for international roaming compatibility and smooth upgrade path to LTE.

3G modem in alarm systems

Even the 3G technology launched more than decade years ago, few alarm manufacturer has launched the wireless alarm systems based on 3G technology. Majority of alarm systems are equipped with GSM/GPRS module for alarm communication. This requires the user need to buy a GSM compliant SIM card for the normal working for the security system, more and more mobile service providers stop providing the GSM SIM card, therefore it brings hassle for the end-users when using the GSM/GPRS based alarm systems.

Additionally, some areas are not with GSM coverage, with merely 3G cellular network coverage, therefore the traditional GSM/GPRS alarm system will not work in such areas.

In order to solve this problem, Unifore plans to upgrade the GSM alarm system to 3G alarm system. Being replacement of the cellular communicator (Modem), the upgraded alarm system is equipped with latest 3G modem allowing users use the 3G SIM card. The alarm system with 3G modem is designed to provide customers with global network coverage on the connectivity of HSPA+/WCDMA. It can also be fully backward compatible with existing EDGE and GSM/GPRS networks through multiply band combination of dual-band WCDMA and quad-band GSM.
