Disadvantages of wireless alarm system

Wireless alarm system with many advantages of easy operation, without cable layout construction works, beautiful design…etc. Any way, there are big different on security aspect between wireless alarm system and hardwired alarm. Now there are many wireless alarm products manufacturer among the security field, products with different price and quality, we admit that there are quite a lot of good designed products, but most of them with some of defects on designing of products.

1. Lock of Anti-RF interference design, easy to cause false alarm or omit alarm. From my experience on testing majority of wireless security system from other supplier, some of products may cause false alarm when using cell phone with the distance of one meter between alarm systems.

2. Non-professional installation, lock of anti-smash, anti-damage design. Almost of hardwired alarm system with design of control panel and keypad separately installed, control panel adopts the metal cabinet with anti-tamper and with lock design. The suggested installation of control panel should be in hidden place, and keypad is visible, also keypad with tamper alarm design. The above design with more advanced features can prevent the intruder damage the alarm system. Wireless alarm system almost are all-in-one system, combined with control panel and keypad together, with plastic beautiful housing design, wireless alarm system installed in visible place, wireless alarm system with this kind of design are easy to be damaged by intruder.

3. Same frequency interference, that’s the fatal weakness for wireless alarm system, the whole system will be disable, if you press any of button of wireless keyfob to emit the same frequency cause the alarm can not receive the wireless signal from triggered wireless detector. Some of manufacturers adopt interference identify alarm method to conquer this problem.

4. Confidential problem, most of Chinese made wireless alarm systems adopt 2262 remote control chip, 3 to the 8th power (6561 unique addresses), with the high ratio of duplicate addresses. Also this addresses likely to duplicate via scan method, with high security risk. Few products are using learning code and rolling code to increase the confidential of wireless transmission.

5. Alarm Delay, for reduce the power consumption, almost of wireless detectors adopts alarm delay function, that means after one time of trigger, the detector will not be triggered among 2-4 minutes, intruder only need to interfere the sensor, then got enough time to damage the alarm system.

6. Backup battery problem. Typically hardwired alarm system with 4-7AH high capacity backup battery, can provide the power supply last for up to 18 hours. Wireless alarm system only can be filled with small size of battery, due to the small design of wireless alarm, for example using AAA type battery as backup power supply.

7. Network Communication transmission. Some wireless alarm systems without alarm network communication transmission functions only can achieve local alarm or auto dial personal telephone numbers. Hardwired alarm systems are compatible with Contact ID, 4+2 Express standard alarm transmission protocol, also support auto dialing personal numbers.

In a nutshell, there are many difference between wireless system and hardwired system. I think we should classify them as home grade system and professional grade system. For high security requirements may choose the professional grade hardwired alarm system. If request easy installation and beautiful housing design, then it’s better to using home grade wireless products.
